Recall Default Selection

Dentally update idea - make Email the default option for recalls rather than Letter.

Are any other practices finding this to be time consuming? Having to manually change each patients recall option to email (or SMS should you choose) rather than letter is rather tedious.

Are many practices still opting to send letters given the cost and inconvenience? Email is surely the preferred option!

My idea is for the default selection to be updated to email so any new patients moving forward would automatically have email selected for recalls and further selections can be manually made from there.

Hi @Robyn_SpringfieldDental, thanks for your feedback. As @DavidB2 mentioned, the correct process and our recommended best practice is not to use patient preference when sending recalls. When setting up recall workflows, simply choose not to follow patient preference, and then the letter default won't matter.

For reference, we do strongly recommend including letters in your recall workflows, as this is the highest performing recall method according to our data from Dentally practices - however you do not need to follow this if you feel other methods work better for your practice.

What you have described about batch recalls only sending to patients with "email" selected does not sound like expected or intended behaviour. In this instance we'd recommend you get in touch with our support team to explore this, in case there's something going wrong.

To confirm, our expected behaviour is that you should be able to set your recall workflows to ignore patient preference, meaning you won't need to manually change it for each patient. If that's not happening as expected for you, please reach out to support so we can help you resolve this!

This did annoy us for a while, until we realised you can just ignore the patients’ preferences when setting up / editing your recall workflow and use email anyway 😉

Yes, we thought that but when doing batch recalls, it only selects those patients where ‘email’ is selected in the individual recall setting, correct?

@Robyn_SpringfieldDental no as long as there is an email address saved for the patient and the patient can receive emails (no history of them bouncing) the recall email will send

Thank you all for responding and the information. That’s great news that the recall selection overrides the patient file preference. I wasn’t aware of this and will notify management accordingly. Again, greatly appreciated!
