Would we be able to have an option for previous surname which is searchable? We have a lot of difficulty when people have changed their names after getting married or by deed poll and they are no longer searchable by their previous name.

This is the first time I hear this suggestion so thank you for sharing it!
A neat workaround would be to add a “Previous surname” custom field on the patient record, then use the Patients report to quickly filter/search that field (you can even save it as a segment for reuse). You can do this via Settings → Practice → Custom Fields/Other; those fields show on the patient’s Details tab and are reportable.
I’ve logged your request for making previous/alias surname searchable from the global search, that would make this much smoother. I’ll keep you posted on any updates.
