Medicare API endpoint?

The api docs have NHS and PPS number field for UK and Ireland but not one for Medicare (Australia) that i can see of. Coming from a legacy system which did not record medicare expiry date, the migration to Dentally meant the medicare number was inserted into notes, while the IRN (individual ref number) inserted into Health Fund Patient ID field. We are updating the Medicare number of patients and could not easily update it into the Medicare number field because of the lack of API endpoints. I hope this is in the works soon.

adding to that. theres also no endpoint to upload attachments to correspondance which is such a shame. We are trying to digitize all forms and integrate with dentally, but without having the ability to upload a copy of the forms/contracts onto a patients file automatically its really just a half solution.

Hi @muqmrlabs, in which APIs would having the medicare number be beneficial? As much context as you can provide would be appreciated.

.@Shanley We are trying to digitize all of our forms. I’ve created an app essentially so we can use a tablet to choose a form for a patient to sign. It would be good if information, such as Medicare number, can be pulled out and prefilled into the form so patients don’t have to fill it out manually. Or if the medicare number is not up to date, for patients to input the number into the form which can then be uploaded to patient file in Dentally instantly. After signing and submitting any one of the form, we would like to then have the ability to upload a copy of the form onto the patients file. In another way the medicare number can be used if we wanted to check the balance of CDBS. We can use it to check the balance automatically instead of having to manually do it. So an API endpoint for updating the balance would also be very useful.

Hi @muqmrlabs, we are investing into the Dentally APIs, as part of this I am reviewing what insurance or national health information is provided against patients.

Regarding CDBS, how do you manage CDBS at your practice currently? Do you have a CDBS portal that you access for each patient? Dentally does not have an integration with CDBS currently.

@Shanley Hi, yes we use PRODA to check CDBS balance online. It would be an awesome inclusion if theres and integration with Dentally that can do this automatically eliminating the need to confirm available balances manually.

To any practice looking on how to digitize all your forms, I ended up creating a form that can be used on tablets on site. Staff can lookup patients, the search is pulled directly from Dentally, and then choose from a number of forms. The tablet is then passed to the patient to fill and sign before submitting. I’ve managed to create an automation at the back end to save a copy of the agreement/contract/form and upload it to the patient file in Dentally within seconds. So by the time the patient submits the form, you just look in the patients file and its already there. If you need this solution feel free to reach out to me.
