Hi,

I would like to know if there is a way to use an external SMS system and log such correspondences against a patient’s record in Dentally through portal  or API.

Currently, when I try to add a new SMS correspondence from portal, it automatically sends the SMS through Dentally. Is there an option to manually log an SMS without triggering one from Dentally’s system? We are exploring options for integrating an in-house SMS system and would like to ensure proper record-keeping within Dentally.

Any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey @sraman ,

Thanks for your question. Currently, Dentally doesn’t have a built-in way to manually log an external SMS without triggering our own SMS system. Basically, if you try to add a new SMS correspondence via the portal, it will always send out a text from Dentally’s system.

On the plus side, if a patient replies to an SMS that Dentally sends, and their number matches the records, that incoming message will show up in Dentally’s inbox alongside the outgoing messages.

For your need to integrate an in-house SMS system while keeping all communications in one place, that would likely require a custom integration. We understand the need to integrate external SMS systems and keep all communications in one place, and this is something that’s been discussed internally. However, right now there isn’t a way to simply log an external SMS through the API or portal.

I’ll pass your feedback on to our Product team, and if there’s any update on this in the future, I’ll be sure to let you know and update this post!

Hope that helps, and thanks again for your feedback!

Thanks Saymon for your response. I appreciate the insight. I’ll be keen to see any updates on this area soon.
