Hello, when it comes to any change to the API, can there be communcation on either the community site or  the developer site of any change to API? as a recent example, there was some underlying changes made to the Appointments API on Monday (3rd November), which caused our ETL to timeout repeatedly.

Hi @Julian.G, thanks for your message

Our dev team do keep a Changelog which is regularly updated to reflect any changes to the API - you can view it here: https://developer.dentally.co/#changelog

The specific issue you’re referring to - the dev team have confirmed that what you experienced was likely the result of a bug we identified, which has since been fixed.

Any other questions please let us know!

Are there other changelogs?

We lost a working integration last month and the API changelog hasn’t had any updates since March. There are two pieces of evidence, both the number of “new version released” messages we get weekly and the change on the Admin menu replacing “Integrations” with the apps “Marketplace”, that suggests other development is taking place.

Is there a way to see what has been worked on or updated to try and isolate the cause?

Resolved.

This might not be universal to all apps. The failed attempts each seemed to leave a connection stub, so even though it suggested the link was established there was no traffic getting through. I had to delete each of these connections and clear the logjam, and then create the connection from a clean configuration.

The API equivalent of switching it off and on again

Hi @Stuart R - thanks for the update, and glad to hear you’ve solved the issue you were facing.

Apologies for the delay in responding, I was seeking guidance from the product team.

For future reference, they have confirmed that no developer changes have been made recently, so the developer changelog is up to date.

In case you’re not aware, you can view all front-end product changes in the monthly round-ups (formerly known as the changelog) here - these are sent every month in-app but can also be accessed directly in the Help Centre from the link above. The “Marketplace” label change was included there.

With regard to the “New version released” messages you mentioned, the product team advised these are likely referring to Dentally’s version updates, not the API.

Any other questions, please let us know or reach out to support.
