It would be useful if the date bar at the top of the diary would have an option to move forward by not just a week, 3 months and 6 months, but also just by a month (as per attached screenshot)

I agree, it would. My team (at the moment) use the week button and advance four weeks which gets us to roughly where we need to bee or use the calendar drop down.
I know its not ideal, Dentally will get round to the calendar changes soon. I think they have bigger things in the pipeine to come so may be focusing on the big items.
