Scotland - Prior Approval Changes

Forum|alt.badge.img+2

Hi everyone,

With the Scottish NHS prior approval changes coming into effect on 1 November 2026, I'm wondering if anyone has heard how these will be managed within Dentally?

As I understand it, prior approval will move away from the current £660 financial threshold for general dental treatment and instead be based on treatment codes, quantities and the dentist's assigned tier.

What we would like to know:

  • Will Dentally automatically recognise when a treatment plan requires prior approval?

  • Will the system identify whether a clinician is Tier 1 or Tier 2?

  • Will it flag when combinations of treatments reach the approval threshold?

  • How will amendments to previously approved treatment plans and continuation cases be handled?

  • Will there be any training or guidance available before the changes go live?

Has anyone had any communication from Dentally about this yet, or know when we can expect an update?

It would be useful to understand what will happen automatically and what our clinicians and claims teams will need to check manually.

Thanks
