Hi everyone 👋

Im Anke,  a Product Manager for Dentally.  I’m currently doing some research into how practices would like to handle prescriptions, and I’d really value your input.

We know every practice works differently, so I’m keen to understand:

  • How you currently create and manage prescriptions
  • What works well for you today
  • Where things are painful, manual, or time‑consuming
  • What an ideal prescription workflow would look like for your practice

This isn’t about promoting a new feature yet — it’s about listening and understanding your real‑world needs so we can make better decisions moving forward.

If you’re happy to share your experience (even briefly), please comment below. Specific examples are especially helpful.

Thanks so much for helping us shape what comes next

@kelwills1 I believe you previously shared feedback on prescriptions, do you have any insight or examples you could share here?

I am, new to Dentally and find writing prescriptions a faff, to click through so many components to get to the print/email stage is very time consuming. Would much prefer a simplified version which presumes it is a prescription for the patient and just allows a drop down of your prefabricated templates then print.

Also, we are having a lot of difficulty with ‘entering the postcode’. I do not understand why the postcode is essential to write a prescription as first line of address complies yet we cannot write one without the ‘correct’ post code. This then becomes an issue when we write a prescription for a patient for the Republic of Ireland ( we are a border practice so 50% of our patients), because dentally keeps telling us the post code is in the incorrect format.

As you can tell, i am not a fan..

@chris6 thank you for the feedback on prescriptions.  This is exactly what we need to ensure we get it right.  I’d love to talk you through our thinking.  Would you be available for 30 mins on one of your mornings?

i am free until 9.30 tomorrow morning if that suited, ie 9-9.30

Previously we clicked a ‘prescription icon and this immediately populated a menu with our pre-tabulated commonly used prescriptions. Then we simply selected what we wanted and hit print or e-mail, with the software making the correct assumption that it was for that individual patient and ‘merged’ in the patient details along with our practice details and GDC Reg No.. Currently with Dentally it is a headache as we always have to revert to ‘legacy form’ to populate a prescription, and we also have to manually delete the ‘example ‘ prescription and type in the new one. it makes a 1 minute protocol at least 3-5 minutes depending on whether the correct post code is entered.

We use a prescribing assistant based on the BNF and SDCEP guidelines to quickly add commonly prescribed medicines to a custom private prescription template within Dentally
