Hi, I had several practitioners ask if we can change certain NHS treatment categories. One example is for the code 716 Denture Reline. it is classed as Other treatment. Would that have an impact on the claims being sent if we change it? I was under the impression that NHS codes are automatically updated by Dentally as per NHS guidance. My change would be done for several sites so I wanted to ask for a second opinion.

Hi Robert,

You can absolutely change the NHS category and banding of those treatments, if required -but obviously with caution. In this case, yes I would change the category from Other Treatment (9399) to Denture Additions/Reline/Rebase (9353) for more accurate NHS claims.

While we do provide a complete set of treatments with the appropriate NHS categories on the creation of a new site, we have employed several methods of providing existing practices with any newly created NHS category codes, including creating new treatments in your treatments list with the appropriate settings, or occasionally advising how to set up new treatments to satisfy the changes in coding requirements where that is more appropriate. We can’t always change any existing treatments on the addition of a new category code, because of the customisable nature of the treatments list, but the transmitted NHS category code is always displayed in the NHS claims screen for your approval.

I hope that helps, and if you have any issues in setting any of these codes, please reach out to the support team who would be happy to help.
