not able to re-process or edit who is taking payments such that when banking is done edits can be done

At the moment you can’t edit the staff member on a saved payment. If the payer was recorded under the wrong user, the supported fix is to remove and re-enter the payment under the correct user:

If the payment isn’t locked:

  1. If it’s linked to an invoice, unallocate it first. 

  2. Delete the payment (you’ll need Permission Level 4 or the ‘Can delete payments?’ permission). 

  3. Re-enter the payment while logged in as the correct user, then re-allocate to the invoice. 

If your site is integrated with Xero: payments are locked once the payment date has passed, so they can’t be removed. In that case, your practice will usually leave an internal note/reconciliation rather than editing the original record; changing Xero lock dates is an accounting decision for your Xero admin. 

If you can share why you need to change the “taker” (e.g., staff attribution vs. reconciliation), I can suggest the tidiest path that keeps your audit trail intact 😊
