Is there any way to add a digital signature to a letter composed for a patient?
Hey
Dentally doesn’t currently have a built-in “signature” field on its standard letter templates.
We do offer electronic signing capabilities for estimates and consent forms. When you create an estimate or consent form for a patient, it can be signed electronically through the Dentally iPad app so that patients can sign directly on the device and Dentally Portal, where patients can sign remotely through their portal access. The signed document will be automatically saved in the patient's Correspondence section, complete with their signature.
Here are a few workarounds for letters:
-
Use a Word-based letter template
-
In Settings > Templates > Word Docs, create (or edit) a template.
-
In Word, insert your scanned signature image wherever you like, along with any merge-fields.
-
Upload the finished DOCX back to Dentally. Whenever you generate a letter from that template, your signature will be included automatically. You can find more info in this article.
-
-
Send the letter through an e-signature service
-
Generate your letter (either with a Word template or from the standard Letters area) and export it as a PDF.
-
Upload it to DocuSign, Adobe Sign, or a similar service to collect a secure digital signature from the patient.
-
-
Print, sign and re-upload
-
Create the letter as usual and print it out.
-
Sign it by hand, then scan or photograph the signed copy and upload it to the patient’s Correspondence tab in Dentally.

I’ll make sure to share this as a new feature request to our Product team since I haven’s seen similar ideas. They may reach out to you to gather more details. In the meantime, I hope these workarounds help!
