I’m curious to learn about how other practices are structuring their appointments. Are you still operating separate hygiene and examination appointments, or have you moved towards therapist-led exams? 😉

Hi Lesley

Interesting question.  In our 4 clinics, we are still booking seperate apts for Hyg and Exams, however we align them with the exam just before the Hyg apt. We have also set the online booking to follow the same, and try to match them as close as possible.

(Our books are usually booked out for 3-4 weeks, and as such patients normally keep their planned apts, due to having to wait another few weeks should they reschedule).

How does the therapist - led exams work ?

@EamonnOMeachair we tried linked appointments but to be honest with so many hygiene appointments each day it is impossible to co-orrdinate dentist and hygienist. We now only do this when the patient has a distance to travel.

Regarding therapy led exams, this is purely with the therapist and for stable patients only. They have the scope of practice to conduct exams so it can all be done in one appointment. BUT do the patients like it? Not at our practice, they much prefere to see the Dentist separately

HI @Lesley Morgan-Barlow

Thanks for the reply.  Yes we have the same in our clinics.  The patients like to see the dentist, not one of his team, so it can be hard.  Will watch this thread, someone else may have an interesting solution, or other idea.

Regards
