Hi

The charting function has changed recently for retained roots.

Restorations previously charted have disappeared from the chart and it is not possible to chart a new filling.

The only way I have found to chart a restoration is to remove the retained root status.

Can this be fixed, please?

Hi @SRob ,

Thanks for bringing this up! The way charting works for retained roots has indeed been designed to prioritise specific treatments. Here’s why it might be happening:

When a tooth is marked as a retained root, only certain treatments set up specifically for roots can be charted. Regular fillings, which are meant for tooth surfaces, won’t appear in this case.

To chart a filling, you’d need to reset the tooth status from “retained root” to “present” as you mentioned. You can do this by selecting “present” from the socket selection menu. Alternatively, you could set up a treatment specifically for root fillings.

Here’s how to adjust this:

• Go to Settings > Treatment & Plans > Treatments tab.

• Create or update the treatment, setting the ‘Region’ to Site on Tooth and enabling Fill Root.

If this workflow feels a bit clunky or you’re still stuck, feel free to share more details or reach out to support, they can help troubleshoot further. Hope this helps! 😊

Hi Saymon

Unfortunately the problem still remains.

I can’t be the only dentist who has patients with retained roots that are filled.

When this was updated a few months ago, the previously charted fillings alos disappeared from the visible chart.

Please rectify this.

Thank you

Hi SRob,

Thanks for bringing this up again. I understand it's frustrating when you can't chart a restoration as expected. When a tooth is marked as a "retained root," our system only allows treatments that are specifically set up for that status—regular fillings are designed for teeth with chartable surfaces, so they won't appear.

To record a restoration on a specific surface, you’ll need to either reset the tooth status to “present” or use a treatment that’s configured for retained roots (i.e. set the treatment region chart on the “site” rather than on a surface). I know this isn’t exactly ideal for those of you who have patients with retained roots that are filled, and I appreciate you highlighting the issue. The good news is that as legacy charts are updated over time, we expect these problems to happen less often.

Thanks again for your input!
