Hi, I have charted watch on a tooth, it comes up on the chart, then when I do treatment over the area the watch was charted why is the watch still there over the treatment? Treatment should overlay the watch to show i am not watching this anymore. Why is this not the case? How can i change this?

Hi @Ataturk 👋
Dentally preserves charting history, so completing treatment over a Watch doesn’t auto-remove it. The live chart shows your latest state, while the earlier Watch remains visible in Charting History so your record stays intact. If you want the Watch to stop showing on the current chart you can either:

Delete the Watch

  • Find the Watch in the treatment list for that tooth/surface.

  • Click the bin icon to remove it (works if it hasn’t been completed/charged).

  • The Watch disappears from the live chart; the historic entry stays in History.

Use “Reset”

  • Select Reset in the treatment list.

  • Apply it to the tooth/surface and complete it.

  • This clears the charted icon from the live view while keeping all history in the History tab.

If you try this and the older entry isn’t in Charting History, that’s not expected. Let me know if that happens so I can ask our Support team to reach out and assist you. 😊

Hi Saymon, I dont want it to reset it nor delete it,
I want it to still show if i hover over the tooth but i dont want it to be ontop of my newly done treatment,

the newly done treatment should be over the watch to show its no longer being watched but was previously watched.

exactly how it was on SOE.

deleting the watch - if i place the watch last year since then i have completed/charged the treatmetn through so i cant go and press the bin,

reset- If i reset  the tooth youre correct the watch goes to history but so does any treatment iv done on the tooth so the live charting shows the tooth as unrestored.

Hi @Ataturk

Thanks for clarifying! So, a Watch is kept as part of the clinical record; doing treatment on the same surface doesn’t auto-hide it. The live chart shows your latest state, while earlier entries live in Charting History

If you want the Watch kept in history but not sitting over the new restoration, you’ve can try a couple of things :

  • Ask an admin to change the Watch item’s icon to something minimal (e.g., a small dot / subtle marker). That keeps the historic Watch in the record but stops it visually dominating over restorations. (Settings → Treatments & Plans → select “Watch” → Icon tab → choose a lighter/alternative icon → Save.) This change applies for the whole practice.
  • Keep the Watch in History and show only the restoration on the live view: complete the plan that contains the old Watch so it moves to History, and chart the restoration on your current plan. You can always review the earlier Watch under Chart → History or via the Clinical History side panel.

You are right that reseting will clear the tooth from the current view and push items to History together, exactly the side-effect you described, so it’s not ideal if the restoration is on the same plan. Also deleting isn’t available once an item is charged/paid unless you unwind invoices, which you shouldn’t do just for a visual tidy-up.

If you’d like, I can raise a product request for an auto-dim/auto-hide rule: when a definitive restoration is completed on the same surface, the prior Watch is shown only on hover/history (not on the live chart). That would match what you’re asking for and how SOE behaved (I need to look into what SOE does exactly). In the meantime, the icon tweak is the least disruptive way to get a cleaner chart while preserving the record. 😊
