Hi Community! We recently interviewed Matt Collins at Eclipse Dental Care to find out more about life inside the practice; now it’s time for some insider knowledge about working at Dentally. Take a glimpse behind the scenes as we chat to Product Design Lead, @Chris Behr, about what he’s working on, what’s coming up and what he’s learnt about Dentally since joining us just a few months ago.

Name: Chris Behr

Job title: Product Design Lead

Year joined: 2025

What are you working on currently?

My role is split between two main areas; building our onboarding service out so it's easier to get started with Dentally, and helping the design team to work more effectively on problems. As a lead designer this means a lot of talking to people - customers, other designers, our onboarding and training team - so I can better understand the problems users are having and help to solve them.

What’s coming up at Dentally?

We're looking closely at the Dentally interface and how we can make it easier to use. Things like colour have a massive impact on how you use the app – such as identifying and prioritising tasks, or finding what you’re looking for quickly - but right now everything is either blue or grey. Think about the road signs around you, how the colour helps you to quickly understand what they're telling you at a glance. I'm trying to do the same thing with Dentally to save you time and make your workflows more efficient.

What’s your favourite thing about Dentally?

One of my favourite experiences was sitting down at a practice in Edinburgh for their training day. Seeing the depth of knowledge that our trainers have, and how they're helping everyone start off successfully made me so proud. Everyone at the practice was so welcoming, and it’s great being in an industry where you're making a difference to people's lives - both the staff at the sharp end of things, and their patients.

Do you have a Dentally success story you'd like to share?

One of the first things I worked on was helping to duplicate recall workflows, cutting down the number of clicks to create a new workflow from 26 to just 3. It was just the tip of the iceberg on what we've got planned for recalls, but it had an impressive impact and has helped improve people's recall strategies already.

Since joining what are three things you have learnt about Dentally?

I'm constantly amazed by the number of features in the product. At my practice visit I was amazed to see the number of features users come across every day such as the task list function which allows practices to streamline daily tasks. It’s great to see our features directly impacting and benefiting practices in person.

I love a good trade show stand, and seeing the amount of work that went into our presence at the BDIA showcase was mind-blowing! Finding out the complexity of NHS treatments, and the amount of admin that people used to have to do in their on-site PMS was a big surprise. Updates on a disk!?

What is something you have enjoyed working on so far?

The onboarding work has been a fantastic project. Being able to touch on so much of the product experience is really helpful to a new starter, and I've learnt a lot in a short time. Plus it has a direct effect on the internal teams who work tirelessly to bring new customers to Dentally.

What was it about Dentally that made you want to become a product designer here?

100% the people I could work with. Frankie, our Head of Design, is not just a wonderful person but also incredibly talented, and the chance to work with her and the rest of the design team was a chance I couldn't miss.
